Prayer

(Greek euchesthai, Latin precari, French prier, to plead, to beg, to ask earnestly).

An act of the virtue of religion which consists in asking proper gifts or graces from God. In a more general sense it is the application of the mind to Divine things, not merely to acquire a knowledge of them but to make use of such knowledge as a means of union with God. This may be done by acts of praise and thanksgiving, but petition is the principal act of prayer.

Brother Mathew either has or will shortly present a series of four talks on the subject of prayer, between Sunday Masses at both Saint Ambrose and Ss Peter and Paul Churches. In support of those talks, applicable documentation is provided below which can be printed out for personal use.

Most Gentle Father,
Joy of my heart and light of my soul
I adore and praise You
For Your mercy to me.

Most Generous Father,
Thank You for all that You have given us
Especially for the grace of the sacraments
Coming to us through Your Church.

Most Gracious Father,
Bless our parish family
Enflame our hearts
That we may grow ever closer to You
And to each other.

Guide us, guard us and lead us.
Make us a sign of Your love to all around us
Calling them to share with us
In Your love.

Hear us as we pray
To You, Father
Through Your Son
And in Your Spirit

Amen
