Mission Statement

“SS. Peter & Paul Church was founded in 1848 by St John Neumann to serve the German-speaking people of Cumberland, Maryland. The Redemptorists, Carmelites, Ursulines, and Capuchins have served as the spiritual leaders of the parish. As a Catholic community of Christians, we strive to live the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ by:

littlegoldcross.gif (962 bytes)Evangelizing ourselves, our families, our parish and local communities and our world by inviting our members to use their God-given talents to proclaim the Gospel to inactive Catholics, other denominations, and the unchurched and receiving all peoples with hospitality and understanding – in the spirit of St Paul;

littlegoldcross.gif (962 bytes)Encouraging a simple, joyful service to the poor, the sick, the oppressed and those with any need; promoting the sanctity of life and of all creation; seeking peace and social justice in cooperation with individuals and religious and civic organizations; developing the material, financial and human resources of the parish and managing them as faithful stewards; and promoting the unity and harmony of all peoples – in the spirit of St Francis.”
